Time. Contrary to how we react to it, is not endless. Time puts things in perspective. Realizing and then really feeling that you have a short amount of time makes one realize how we are using it…or not using it. A very close friend just had a sudden heart attack and is struggling in the ICU as we speak…I imagine if he was aware enough to speak he would wish he had more time…More time to spend with his three children that literally have flown from all parts of the world to be at his side. More time to view the beauty of the world. More time to laugh with close friends. More time to live…
It is amazing to me how people go about their weekly routines completely oblivious to how precious life really is…It’s normal. You develop habits, develop a pattern of working and really don’t have the luxury of taking time to consciously dedicate to “shaping” your life. As a result, it gets shaped for you. Regardless of how busy we are we can always take steps to craft our life. I am choosing to use this time now to share this message with you.
Think about a few things that you can easily incorporate or do differently to enhance your life. Perhaps you might really say your morning prayer, really take that afternoon walk or take a moment to really view and absorb the beautiful world around you. Many people have asked what Kyle and I do in our business. We believe we help support others to make their lives better! We meet them where they are at and help with life awareness, career choices, taking the next step…whatever they need. It might be something pragmatic like doing a resume or preparing them for an interview but it often is much deeper than the surface issue.
You see, this is my role in life. Close friends are not surprised as I have always taken the role to help them. I remember what the response was when I became a counselor and then ran into old friends who inquired what I did for a living. The response frequently was, “Ah, of course you are…that’s a great fit for you”. Occasional strangers have shared that they can feel the positive energy that I am eager to share. I do want to help you. I love to see people in their “element”. They are contributing the most to the world because they are in their niche. Each person making the world a little better with their contribution.
Now, I realize that it takes great energy, self-reflection and time to create our lives. Taking a drastic step is not always necessary. Incorporating baby steps into your life can enhance it tremendously. Maybe it is the step to actually eat healthy, exercise or meditate. Now may be the time to start volunteering or to take that trip or new adventure. Perhaps it’s the act of staying in the moment when you are with your friends and family…or actually taking the time to get with your friends and family. I do not claim to have all the answers as it is your choice but hope you will start thinking more about the value of time.
Time. It is not endless. It is our greatest gift. Create your world and use your time wisely. Carpe Diem!
