I often talk to clients that are desperately seeking “Work-Life Balance”. Does it exist? We are meant for Work and Leisure so how do we control our career instead of it controlling our life?
On our recent trip to Maine I met many interesting restaurant servers and baristas that made their Career work for their Lifestyle by taking advantage of the booming tourism economy in Maine during May-October.
Did you know that the town of Bar Harbor, Maine literally shuts down after mid- October? They make 99% of their income during 5- 6 months of the year. So hospitality workers travel to Maine (Acadia, Bar Harbor, Camden, Kennebunkport, and many more highly sought out harbor towns) to as they say “make hay when sun shines”. They work 90-100 hours a week to make income for the entire year. So what do they do when they are not literally serving others (October-April)?
So four different hospitality service workers with four different ways that their career worked for their lifestyle. Does your career work for your life? Find out what Work-Life Balance means to you so you can choose a career that fits you.
